Whether you have taken air flights for business, or vacations and holidays, you may have lost luggage or know someone that has. Here are a few travel tips that can help you reduce this risk.
It has been estimated that more than a million bags are lost by the airlines each year in the U.S. alone. How many bags get lost in the whole world is anybody’s guess. Here are a few tips that might help you find your bags should they get lost.
Attach a couple of tags with your name, home address, and phone number to the handle and zipper-pulls of every bag that you are checking. There’s less of a chance that every tag could get torn off when in transit. Make sure that you’ve taken off any old airline tags that are still on your luggage as they could confuse the baggage handlers.
Be sure to place the same contact information, including a copy of your itinerary and your destination address inside each piece luggage. That way, if they do get lost and are found in time, they could be forwarded to your hotel.
If you can, pick luggage with preferably a bright or odd color that will stand out from all of the black and brown bags. Know the brand name of the luggage that you own and attach a colorful scarf or ribbon to the handle to make identification easier. Stick a few decals or a contrasting colored tape to all of the sides of the bags so they can be easier to see as it goes around the carousel. Remember these details, or even better, take a digital picture of your luggage just before you leave and bring it with you. This will also help the lost luggage airport staff in finding your bags if they become lost in transit and turn up at their office. It will also help if you have to make a claim.
It can help if you make a list of what you have in your luggage and carry that list in you carry-on bag. The chance of your checked luggage getting lost in transit increases when you have delayed, or connecting flights. Pack your valuables, including your laptop or Blackberry, travel documents, prescriptions, etc., in your carry-on luggage. It’s best to pack only the things you can afford to lose in your checked baggage. Analysts believe the airline industry’s problem of lost luggage is not going to go away anytime soon.
What can you do your luggage gets lost?
Go immediately to the baggage claim office and file a claim. Many airlines have a twenty-four hour window of time starting from when your flight arrives to file and be eligible for compensation. You will receive a claim receipt to check the tracking of your luggage with the airline by phone, or on the airline’s website. Make sure you keep all your flight documents until the lost luggage problem is resolved.
How can you guarantee that the airlines will not lose your luggage?
There are some companies like FedEx, UPS or DHL, that can send your luggage in the U.S. directly to your hotel or street address for a very reasonable cost. If you’re staying at a hotel, your luggage will be taken to your room by a bellboy. When you consider that in the United States alone, over a million bags are lost by the airlines each year, this service is well worth considering. If you are planning to travel by air throughout Europe, FirstLuggage.com, provides a similar service.

My story: I had a challenge. I needed to move to Mexico for my health and retire, and I spoke English, a few words of French from high school, about 12 words of Spanish which could wind me up in fight or jail, yeah – mostly cuss words, and some other languages from living in a multicultural neighborhood as a child.
I was in trouble and when I arrived in Mexico – I needed help. Luckily I met Reuben Varela, a well known Restauranteur (Ruben\’s Grill) at the Hot Springs in San Juan Cosala, Jalisco, Mexico and Gerardo Tolentino, an English teacher who was struggling with teaching English. Reuben pushed me to find ways of learning and practicing Spanish, and Gerardo worked with me to create the Gringo Guide.
I was the gringo — and I sure needed a guide to get me through the experience of living in Mexico. We searched the internet, and books on Spanish, and listened to conversations in the English speaking sections of restaurants in Ajijic and San Miguel de Allende where most of the gringos hang out.
We talked to them and asked them what they needed, and we listened to what they asked of the waiters, restaurant owners, etc. Later, then Gerardo accompanied me to doctors and we went to travel through Mexico.
By the time we were finished, so was the book and we had part of it recorded so that pronunciation would be no problem for anyone to learn. The book was finished and put up on our site speedread.org

Australia is one of the hottest tourist centers in all the world and it\’s no wonder. With such a vast variety of choices on what to do for vacation time, how could people choose to go anywhere else? From \’roughing it\’ to \’opulent\’, private to public, this country has every kind of experience you might want to enjoy!
The multitude of things to do in Australia depend on what someone is going there for. Some people who take vacations want a luxury resort or opulent hotel to lounge around in. Others are looking for guided tours and special cruises to help them learn about the country they\’re visiting. Still others are seeking outdoor adventures and to even \’rough it\’ in the more natural settings of the places they visit. Australia provides all of these.
One of the main attractions for any vacation spot is a beach. Australia is blessed with approximately ten thousand beaches and it\’s no wonder, since this land has fifty thousand kilometers of coastline. Surrounded by beautiful blue oceans, the Australian way of life is very laid back and the ocean is an integral part of that. Sand and sun are never far away.
For those who are looking less for a beach and more for a pool, Australia has wonderful resorts to choose from. Many hotels are luxurious and provide full service, while some resorts are actually more for privacy and winding down, de-stressing. Byron at Byron for example has private apartment style rooms that are a short walk from the actual main complex. Their facilities include five \’treatment\’ rooms and Vichy type showers, giving the over-worked a chance to relax and be catered to.
Many people who visit Australia are coming to see the natural treasures this country has to offer. Places of scientific value attract many each year, as do those surrounded by cultural meaning. The Henbury Meteorites Conservation Reserve is a veritable lunar landscape, caused when a meteor exploded five thousand years ago, leaving twelve huge craters in the earth. Uluru, more commonly known as Ayers Rock, is a sandstone formation that has been declared a world heritage site and is steeped in Aboriginal mythos and legends, filled with waterholes and covered with the paintings of the ancient people.
Barron Gorge National Park, another world heritage site, sports incredible waterfalls and tropical rainforests. Flecker Botanical Gardens brags about having at least a hundred species of the palm plant alone, and the footpaths that tread through the gardens are peaceful and serene. If it\’s a park you\’re looking for, Australia has it, from protected forests to open campgrounds. Hiking and guide tours are available, you only have to choose!
The Great Barrier Reef, another of Australia\’s natural treasures, has always been a source of tourism for this country. Large parts of it remain protected to reduce the impact of humanity upon the delicate coral system. However, tourists can still rent glass bottom boats or go scuba diving in some areas, to explore the rare underwater plants and see the exotic sea creatures. Nearby Melbourne, a modern city with great architectural buildings, offers balloon rides at both sunrise and sunset over the city, and people can take helicopter tours of the reef itself.
As a tourist destination, Australia is an amazing choice full of great opportunities. From scuba diving to backpacking, from luxury hotels to discrete hidden resorts, there is nothing you can\’t experience in this country. Hot night clubs attached to shopping districts and modern cities or conservation areas and natural reserves and parks, you\’re bound to find something to do. Fly high or swim deep! Australia offers it all!

Spain was among the very first nations to allow same-sex couples to enjoy equal marriage rights, to openly adopt children and to be treated with equal respect and dignity under the law. This legal equality and level of acceptance has created a welcoming atmosphere that has made Spain a popular gay travel destination for safe, memorable gay vacations. Each of the major cities in Spain, as well as some smaller towns, has a visible, active community and an LGBT scene, which varies by location. For example, Sitges offers an LGBT culture with casual class, while Madrid boasts a sexually-charged scene and lively nightlife that promises a raucous good time. With great weather, breathtaking architecture, beautiful landscapes and rich culture and history, Spain is an ideal setting for gay travel tours.
Welcoming islands, cities and towns that should not be missed include Barcelona, Benidorm, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Sitges, Valencia and Torremolinos, which are the most popular destinations for gay vacations in Spain. Most of these hotspots offer excellent beaches and all offer exciting nightlife and a visible community. While Madrid is the place to be for anyone looking for a raucous LGBT scene, Ibiza and Gran Canaria offer a more laidback beach lifestyle and Valencia and Torremolinos offer a good mix of bars and beaches.
Barcelona is a welcoming city with amazing art, architecture and culture where travelers will find a plethora of bars, clubs, saunas (bathhouses), restaurants and other establishments that cater to both locals and tourists. This cosmopolitan city is among the gayest metros found anywhere in Europe and is home to a very visible, very active community. The LEixample neighborhood is home to many of the community establishments, but visitors will also not want to miss the Barcelona beaches and will certainly want to make a side trip to the south to visit Sitges, a seaside town that is a favorite among visitors on a gay vacation in Spain.

Many of us lead stressful lives and like to look forward to our holidays. It’s often a good idea to head for somewhere that’s nice and warm, making the Mediterranean a very popular destination. The likes of Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Malta attract millions of visitors each year and it’s not hard to see why, with the great climate and relaxed way of life.
If you’re thinking about getting away to the Mediterranean this year then there may well be one thing putting you off: the price. There’s no doubt that such holidays can be expensive and especially so if you’re taking the whole family. Fortunately, there are a few things that you can do to try and reduce costs. Many of them are about flexibility and taking a new approach to travel bookings.
Don’t forget that the Mediterranean is surrounded by a large number of countries and possible destinations. A holiday in Tunisia, for example, is likely to have a considerably different feel to a trip to Spain or the south of France. These variations also lead to differences when it comes to prices. Don’t be put off making a booking if the first place that you see is expensive. There may well be cheaper alternatives.
Do you still look to book your holidays at a traditional travel agent. While many people think of this as being the only option available, it’s clear that the cheapest deals can usually be found by looking online. By doing so, you’ll be able to compare prices so much more easily, allowing you to find the best deals.
When making your booking, try to be flexible. You need to consider that most people like to travel during the same few months of summer. By avoiding traveling at these busiest times, you can keep costs down. That doesn’t mean to say that you have to fly in the winter months, but it does mean that it makes good sense to think about the days and times of day when you are intending to travel.
